Hello!
As I wrap up my third year as the President of the LDA-CA, I am so excited to say that our CA affiliate has been gaining strength each month with more membership. Our board members continuously provide abundant information to the community by sharing top-quality educational and advocacy services. They educate, advocate, and disseminate research-based information while keeping the spirit of teamwork by meeting regularly and responding promptly to various inquiries from diverse communities regarding issues on Learning Disabilities (LDs) via emails, phone calls, and/or Zoom meetings.
I’m proud of our team’s outreach efforts and success throughout this year, particularly in providing more opportunities for meaningful engagement of our members and sponsors, introducing innovative and evidence-based approaches and ideas on the topics of education, assessment, transition, mental health, and many more areas for people with LDs. The annual conference held on Oct. 7th, 2023, with the topic of socialization and behavior interventions for students with LDs, featured two outstanding experts and was another successful addition to many of LDA-CA’s accomplishments in 2023. Before the conference, we also met via zoom with CA members, as the first “Meet and Greet Special Meeting” on Sep. 30, 2023.
In other great news, we have a new board member: Claudia Romo, who works in higher education. She will be contributing to LDA-CA with her technology and counseling expertise. She is also a mother of a very bright daughter with LDs. Her family lives in Whittier, CA.
Thank you, members and sponsors, for your continued participation and enthusiasm in our learning disabilities community and your incredible support and advice this year. In the year ahead, along with all other LDA-CA board members, I will continue these activities in collaboration with other state affiliates with the national LDA. I want to see many of you at the upcoming Learning Disability Association of America’s 61st Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida from Feb. 20 to Feb. 22, 2024.
