Hello & Congratulations on nearing the end of high school! As you prepare to embark on the next chapter of your academic career, we want to ensure that you know the support services available at colleges and universities.
As graduation draws closer, students with learning differences and disabilities must familiarize themselves with the support services provided by their chosen college or university. Before starting your first semester, we encourage you to visit the college’s website and search for the Disabled Student Services Office.
It’s important to submit relevant information to the Disability Services Office to receive the necessary accommodations. These services may include:
- Assistance with registration and enrollment
- Orientation programs
- Accessibility tours and maps
- On-campus van transportation
- Equipment loans
Additionally, academic support is readily available through:
- Readers
- Interpreters
- Note-takers
- Special test-taking arrangements
- Adaptive equipment
To help you navigate this process, we’ve provided links to the Programs for Students with Disabilities and Services for each of the three public higher education systems in California:
- California Community Colleges: Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS) Coordinators Directory | California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (cccco.edu)
- California State University: Services for Students with Disabilities | CSU (calstate.edu)
- University of California: Students with disabilities | UC Admissions (universityofcalifornia.edu)
Remember, you’re not alone on this journey. Colleges and universities are committed to supporting students with disabilities and ensuring equal access to education for all. We wish you the best of luck as you transition to college life!
